University of Sunderland in London students in a lecture room

So, you’re coming to the University of Sunderland in London this month - congratulations.

We’re delighted you’ve chosen to study with us and even happier that you’ve chosen now to do it.

2022 marks ten years since we opened our doors, just a stone’s throw from Canary Wharf. In fact, we welcomed our first students here a decade ago this month.

That makes you part of a very historic intake.

To get you ready for life at the University, we wanted to highlight some of the things to look out for when you arrive.

Take a look and see you soon.

Careers and Employability

Since the first student sat down in our classroom, we’ve had a focus on what comes after you graduate.

We know how important your futures are to your decision to study with us, which is why we have a dedicated Careers and Employability Service to help get you there.

The team are available throughout the working week (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) with practical support and advice on everything from working out what career you want to how to find jobs, internships and volunteering to boost your CV.

They’ll even give you interview practice, teach you about things like psychometric tests and take you through workshops on everything from social media in the job search to learning presentation skills.

Health and Wellbeing

Your time as a University of Sunderland in London student will be exciting, dynamic and engaging. But we all know that life can be complicated sometimes.

That’s the reason we have the Health and Wellbeing Service, to help you through the difficult things so you can carry on with your studies and get the most from your time with us.

You can speak confidentially Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on everything from the practicalities of getting around campus with a disability and mental health to diet and homelessness.

We’re here to support you, no matter what other things are going on in your life. So please reach out.

Personal Academic Tutors (PATs)

When you first arrive, you’ll be assigned a PAT - experts dedicated to supporting you through your studies by helping you learn employment and study skills.

We know that you’ll have lots of questions about the practical parts of starting at the University, from how to write an essay to the best way of taking notes in class.

Your PAT is there to help you orient yourself so you can focus on what you’re learning instead of how to learn.

The Library

No University experience would be complete without the Library

Filled with all the academic books, journals and articles you will need for your studies, our custom-built facilities are aimed at helping you achieve your goals.

You’ll have access to our fantastic Library staff, all trained in helping you find what you need, as well as being able to guide you through the world of academic research.

Plus, we have a huge range of texts in our online catalogue so wherever you are, you’ll be able to find what you need for that assignment.

With all this and so much more waiting for you, you’re sure to have a brilliant time at the University of Sunderland in London.
