Head of Services for Students
Tim Maugherman serves the University of Sunderland in London as the Head of Services for Students.
He comes from a small farming community in Northwest Ohio, moving to the UK in 1996. He received a BSc degree in Music Education in 1988 and MAs in College Student Services and International Communications in 1990 from Bowling Green State University, Ohio.
Tim’s masters degrees prepared him for positions in student services through integrating theory-based course work emphasising student learning, growth and development. He has held numerous posts in student services at many US and UK higher education institutions. His professional experiences have allowed him to become a reflective practitioner, who can combine knowledge and skills to real student situations, knowing what constitutes a successful student journey in the 21st-century.
Tim brings with him many years of student development experience having worked with students at every major push point along their journey from enquiries, through to graduation and alumni stage.
Tim strives to put students central to all he does, focusing on the personalisation of student learning experiences to ensure that they are active partners in their own education.
