For cases of estrangement that can't be confirmed by Student Finance England, you would need to give the University evidence of ‘genuine estrangement’. We consider all applications of estrangement on a case by case basis.
You won't be considered estranged if:
- You simply live separately from your parents or carers
- You've had a recent falling out with them
- Your parents or carers won't complete the income assessment forms in the student finance application
- They won't help with your student finances
If you're not sure whether you're an estranged student, of want to know what support you're eligible for, get in touch with the University of Sunderland's Estranged Student Support Team on 0191 515 2216 or email them at estranged.contact@sunderland.ac.uk.
