Less than two years after we welcomed the 15,000th student to our London campus in Canary Wharf, the 20,000th student has now joined our University.

The Vice Chancellor Sir David Bell KCB presented Aminat with her certificate in an award ceremony, where he remarked this significant achievement in his speech:

“Welcoming our 20,000th student to study at the University of Sunderland in London is a proud moment for us, and very good reason to celebrate. After more than a decade in the capital, this achievement demonstrates the attractiveness of the courses we offer and the strong reputation we have for looking after and supporting our students.

It doesn’t seem like any time at all since our 15,000th student came through the door. So, today points to the continuing and growing success of the University’s work in London and our confidence that it will go from strength to strength in the coming months and years.”

Aminat said: I feel like I’m the luckiest, like I’m a superstar! I’m very grateful, and this is a life-changing opportunity for me.

Alan Hardie; Director of the University of Sunderland in London, has expressed:

“Reaching our 20,000th enrolled student is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students. We are proud to have played a role in shaping the minds of such a diverse group of students and look forward to continuing to provide a world-class education to all of our students for years to come.”

When asked about her feelings when she received the award news, Aminat said:

“I can’t find the right words to answer this question or express my feelings, even if I was asked five hundred times! It was a mix of feelings, I was happy, I was confused, and I was grateful, it was more like; why is this happening? And why did they choose me? So, it was an overwhelming feeling.”

Congratulation to Aminat, and we wish her the best of luck in her time at the University.
