The University of Sunderland in London celebrated its first graduation of 2023 with a ceremony held at East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, on February 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Hundreds of students, staff and guests gathered to celebrate a major achievement in the lives of our students. Gowns were donned and scrolls rolled as our students prepared to graduate.

In his speech, Sir David Bell expressed his pride in the graduates, saying: I began our ceremony earlier by describing this as a day of celebration. And so it is, as we recognise the remarkable achievements of our Class of 2023. Through their commitment, professionalism and hard work, our graduating students can leave here proud of all they have achieved and ready to make a difference in the world.”

Several students and staff members have also shared their thoughts on this memorable graduation week.

Director Alan Hardie, stated, "delighted to have been part of another three days of graduations for our fantastic students, its heart-warming to see their joy at their achievement, the pride that their friends and family display and the mutual respect and admiration between students and staff"

Assistant Director (Academic), Associate Prof Geoff Paul, also expressed, "The Graduation Days were truly joyful events and a wonderful celebration of our graduate's achievements. I'm delighted and proud to see that our students' hard work and dedication has paid off and will lead to their success in the future. Congratulations to all our graduates.”

MBA student and a Student Ambassador, Pranav Savant, expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s a big achievement for me today, it was a long-time dream for me, and I’m happy I’m finally there, I’m excited and proud of myself for graduating today.”

Oreoluwa Fasanya, another MBA student and a Student Recruitment and Admissions Intern also expressed his joy and said, “I feel very happy today, it’s been a long journey, but I learnt a lot of things, I’m happy today because I’m seeing all my efforts being crowned in success.”

Alma Duklaska, who graduated with an MBA, delivered her vote of thanks to the guests and expressed her gratitude to the university and her lecturers, saying, “I’m very proud I made it; I got a distinction and I’m so proud! I made a lot of friendships with people from the same background and with the same interests. I’m grateful to my lecturers, this university is life-changing, and this is what makes me proud to be a graduate from this university.”

BA Business and Management graduate and a Marketing Intern, Christiana Lamari, expressed her excitement for the future, saying, “I’m very happy and excited to be graduating today, I’m looking forward to what’s yet to come, I’m happy with my marketing internship at the university of Sunderland in London which I appreciate, and I’m very thrilled about it, I’m looking forward to the new adventures and experiences and this new part of my life. I’m excited to start this new era of my life.”
