Alan Hardie has spent the last 17 years working for the University of Sunderland. He was appointed as Head of London Campus when it opened in April 2012 and became the Director of the University of Sunderland in London in 2016.
Alan was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in February 1969. Educated at a comprehensive school, he studied at college, polytechnic and at university in the North East of England.
In a career spanning over 30 years, Alan has held a number of senior posts in higher education, as well as other public and private organisations. In his early career, he held senior posts in human resources, and learning and development for a major utility business and was seconded to support the development of its engineering and trenchless technology subsidiary companies.
He then spent time as the North East Regional Personnel and Training Manager for Cammell Laird, a major shipbuilding and repair business, before moving to the position of Human Resources Manager for KP (Tyneside), a subsidiary company of Allied Biscuits, a major European manufacturing business.
