Through its partnership with Mulberry Schools Trust, the University of Sunderland in London funded a GCSE Mathematics booster programme that helped students achieve a 70% pass rate in GCSE resits, compared with a national average of around 15%, at Mulberry UTC in Bow, East London.

More than 200 students strengthened their career and professional development skills by taking part in Enterprise and Employability Week. A seven-day programme in early October that connected students with employers, entrepreneurs, alumni and university staff. Organised by our London academic employability team, the event brought together students from across our BSc Top-Up programmes (/top-up), including business, hospitality, nursing and social care.

We meet Favour Okuonghae and Faraday Osemeke Uwaya, MSc Project Management students, who recently completed a two-week internship with OCS, a global facilities service group (who also manage UoSiL's facilities).

We meet Nida Saleh, an MSc Engineering Management student, Student Ambassador, and member of the SU crew. She also, impressively, became Pakistan's first female train driver in 2025.

Following the successful award accreditation of the University of Sunderland in London’s facilities by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the university is delighted to be enhancing teaching and learning with an additional clinical simulation ward and Anatomage facility.

In early June, we welcomed Hospitality and Universities United (https://www.hospitalityuniversitiesunited.com/) (HUU), as they hosted an employer connect event for UoSiL students, supporting their future careers in the sector. Dawn Lawrence, CEO and founder of HUU, hosted an engaging panel with employers working across the industry.

On 16 June, the University of Sunderland in London proudly welcomed a senior delegation from Guangdong University of Education (GDUE), led by Weihua Ma – Executive President. GDUE is one of China’s established higher education institutions with over 16,000 students and strong academic provision across engineering and computer science disciplines.

Dawn Lawrence’s lifelong commitment to helping people build a better future was recognised as she received an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Sunderland in London.

On 10 June, Dr Vanessa Ogden CBE, Regional Director for London at the Department for Education, was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Sunderland in London. She received the award at the university’s graduation ceremonies held at Southwark Cathedral, in recognition of her 30-year commitment to raising educational standards.
