Following the successful award accreditation of the University of Sunderland in London’s facilities by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the university is delighted to be enhancing teaching and learning with an additional clinical simulation ward and Anatomage facility.

This important investment reflects the growing importance of healthcare and nursing provision in the higher education sector and for the UK.

The combination of this £145,000 investment and NMC accreditation will enable the university to train over 100 nursing students to NMC registration level over the next three years and attract both international and domestic students.

The highlight of this expanded academic provision includes the new flagship Nursing Masters (MNurse)(opens in new tab) programme, which will welcome its first cohort of students in January 2027.

MNurse (Adult)(opens in new tab) is an intensive pre-registration master's degree designed for graduates aspiring to become highly skilled, knowledgeable and professional adult nurses. The programme leads to eligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Enhanced, industry-standard facilities

Students on the MNurse and other healthcare courses, including BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice (Top-Up)(opens in new tab) and MSc Public Health(opens in new tab), will benefit from enhanced, industry-standard facilities designed to support practical learning and clinical skills development.

The additional clinical simulation ward will feature a 4-bed facility with high-fidelity manikins. These facilities, built to NHS specification, will provide students with a realistic clinical learning environment.

The university has also invested in an Anatomage Table, an advanced 3D virtual dissection table that allows students to explore human anatomy in unprecedented detail, enhancing learning and preparing them for future healthcare careers.

In addition to supporting teaching and learning, the new facilities will also be used to showcase healthcare and nursing courses to pupils from local secondary schools across East London, as part UoSiL’s growing schools' engagement activities.
