Cynthia Omonigho

My name is Omonigho Cynthia, and I am from Nigeria. I chose to study a MSc International Business Management(opens in new tab) because I wanted to develop a deeper understanding of how organisations operate, compete and grow in an increasingly interconnected global environment. Businesses today operate across different countries and markets, meaning that effective management requires an understanding of international markets, cultural differences, global trends and changing business environments.

What attracted me to this course was its broad perspective on how organisations make decisions and respond to change. It has allowed me to develop a better understanding of how businesses formulate strategies, identify opportunities and prepare for future challenges. I am particularly interested in how organisations can remain competitive and achieve sustainable growth in a constantly changing global environment. I believe the course is giving me a strong foundation for my future career by developing my understanding of business, management and strategic decision-making.

After completing my MSc, I want to pursue a career in business and management, with a particular interest in international marketing, business development and strategic decision-making. I want to work in a role where I can contribute to organisational growth by understanding markets, identifying opportunities and supporting the development and implementation of effective business strategies.

I am particularly interested in gaining experience in an international working environment where I can work with people from different backgrounds and develop a greater understanding of how businesses operate across different markets. In the long term, I would like to progress into a management or strategic role where I can contribute to important organisational decisions and help shape business growth.

I chose the University of Sunderland in London because I wanted to study in an international and diverse environment while being based in one of the world’s leading business cities. London is home to organisations and professionals from across the world, making it a particularly relevant environment in which to study International Business Management.

I also value the University’s supportive and practical approach to learning. Studying alongside people from different backgrounds has allowed me to gain new perspectives and develop a greater appreciation of the importance of cultural awareness in international business.

The University has also given me opportunities to develop my knowledge and apply what I learn to real-world business situations. I believe studying in London has enhanced my academic experience by exposing me to a dynamic and globally connected environment.

I am particularly interested in building my future career within the technology and digital services industry, specifically in a multinational organisation with operations across different countries and markets. I am interested in this industry because of its global nature and the significant role it plays in transforming how organisations operate, reach customers and respond to changing market needs.

I would particularly like to work in areas related to international marketing, business development, market strategy or management. I am interested in understanding how organisations identify opportunities in different markets, adapt their strategies to meet changing customer needs and achieve sustainable international growth.

In the long term, I want to develop into a professional who can combine knowledge of international business with practical management and strategic skills. I would like to contribute to an organisation’s growth by supporting informed decision-making and helping it respond effectively to opportunities and challenges in the global business environment.

I enjoy both lectures and independent study because they provide different opportunities for learning and development. Lectures allow me to learn from academics, explore different perspectives and engage in discussions about real-world business issues.

I also value independent study because it has helped me become more self-reliant and take greater responsibility for my learning. Researching topics independently allows me to explore ideas in greater depth and develop my critical-thinking skills.

Although balancing different academic responsibilities can sometimes be challenging, I find my studies rewarding because I can see how the knowledge and skills I am gaining relate to my future career ambitions.

My advice to future students is to approach university with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Your experience will involve more than attending lectures and completing assignments. It is also an opportunity to develop your confidence, independence, professional skills and understanding of different perspectives.

Do not be afraid to ask questions, seek support or step outside your comfort zone. There may be challenges along the way, but they can help you grow both personally and professionally.

Most importantly, remain consistent and make the most of the opportunities available to you. Your time at university can provide more than a qualification. It can help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to take the next step towards your future career.
