My name is Zaw Naing, and I am from Myanmar. I am currently studying BA (Hons) Business and Management (opens in new tab)at the University of Sunderland in London. Choosing this course and this University has been one of the most important decisions of my life. It has provided me with the knowledge, skills and confidence to pursue my career ambitions while also supporting my personal growth.
I chose to study Business and Management because I have always been interested in understanding how organisations operate, grow and create value for society. I wanted a course that would provide a strong foundation in key business areas, including marketing, finance, leadership and strategic management. The programme combines academic theory with practical learning, allowing me to develop valuable skills in communication, teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving. These qualities are essential for success in today’s global business environment and will prepare me for a wide range of career opportunities.
After completing my degree, I hope to begin my career in business consultancy, finance or the technology sector. My ambition is to work for a leading international organisation such as Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG, Amazon or Microsoft. This would allow me to gain valuable professional experience, develop my leadership skills and contribute to meaningful projects. In the future, I aspire to establish my own successful business, using the knowledge and experience I have gained to create innovative solutions and make a positive impact in the business world.
I chose the University of Sunderland in London because of its excellent reputation for providing career-focused education and preparing students for the workplace. The University offers experienced lecturers, modern learning facilities and a supportive environment that encourages both academic and personal development.
Studying in London has also been a significant advantage. As one of the world’s leading business and financial centres, the city provides outstanding opportunities for networking, internships and exposure to international industries. The University’s diverse student community has also allowed me to meet people from different cultures and backgrounds, broadening my perspective and enriching my learning experience.
My experience as a student has been both enjoyable and rewarding. I particularly appreciate the balance between interactive lectures and independent study. The lecturers encourage students to participate, ask questions and share ideas, creating an engaging and supportive learning environment. Independent study has also helped me become more organised, confident and self-reliant. It has allowed me to explore business topics in greater depth and apply what I have learnt to real-world situations.
My message to future students is to embrace every opportunity that university life offers. Stay curious, work hard and never hesitate to ask for support when you need it. Make the most of your time by building strong relationships with your lecturers and classmates, taking part in University activities and remaining open to new experiences. By staying committed to your goals and maintaining a positive attitude, your time at the University of Sunderland in London will equip you with the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to achieve a successful and fulfilling future.
