About Dr. Ural Arslangulov

I received my PhD in Business Management from Nottingham Business School in 2023, funded by a Nottingham Trent University Vice Chancellor’s Studentship. I also hold an MBA from Henley Business School, awarded in 2015. My professional qualifications and recognitions include a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, and Fellowship of the Chartered Management Institute. Before joining academia, I held several professional positions as an analyst, consultant and project manager for different companies in Russia and Kazakhstan, primarily involved in energy efficiency and sustainable mobility projects. Some of the notable companies include KPMG, the Institute of Energy Strategy, and RITEK (an innovation subsidiary of Lukoil). In 2019, I was appointed Associate Lecturer at the Department of Economics, Nottingham Business School where I taught Quantitative Methods for Economics and International Business students. I joined the University of Sunderland in London in 2022 and currently hold a position of Lecturer and Deputy Programme Manager for MBA Programme. In 2024, I received the overall university Student Nominated Teaching Award for Outstanding Student Support. This was followed by my nominations in previous years for ‘Most digitally Engaging Tutor’, ‘Most Inspirational Member of University Staff’, ‘Outstanding Personal Academic Tutor’, ‘Outstanding Project Supervisor’ and ‘Tutor Who Provides Outstanding Feedback’.

My teaching practice emphasises experiential and problem-based learning strategies, with significant importance placed on collaboration with industry. This approach bridges the gap between theory and practice while exposing students to potential employers and industry leaders. I also integrate research-informed teaching, ensuring students gain cutting-edge knowledge in the modules I lead.
