Ilona Lewicka

Ilona joined the University of Sunderland in London in 2015 and leads on HR strategy and operations, with a strong focus on employee engagement, organisational effectiveness and inclusive people practices. She works closely with colleagues across the University to ensure the institution attracts, develops and supports talented staff who enable the delivery of excellent teaching, student support and the University’s strategic objectives. Ilona is also responsible for providing strategic HR support to the International Office at the University’s main campus in Sunderland.

Originally from Poland, Ilona moved to the UK in 2006. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, is an Associate Member of the CIPD and trained workplace mediator.

Ilona has over 20 years’ professional experience, including more than 12 years in HR, having worked across the charity sector and higher education in a range of roles before joining the University of Sunderland.

Outside of work, Ilona has recently developed a passion for ultra-distance running.
