I already have a nursing qualification and several years of clinical experience. I chose the BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice (Top-Up)(opens in new tab) course to build on my knowledge, improve my professional skills and earn a bachelor’s degree that is recognised internationally. I believe this course will help me become a more confident, competent and compassionate nurse while opening up better career opportunities and supporting my goal of working as a registered nurse in the UK.

After completing my BSc Nursing Top-Up course, my immediate goal is to obtain NMC registration and begin working as a registered nurse in the UK. I aim to apply the knowledge, clinical skills and evidence-based practice gained through this course to deliver safe, effective and person-centred care.

As I progress in my career, I am committed to continuous professional development through further education, clinical training and reflective practice. I aspire to become a competent and confident nurse who contributes to improving patient outcomes, supports multidisciplinary teamwork and upholds the highest standards of professional practice.

In the long term, I hope to progress into leadership or specialist nursing roles, where I can make a meaningful contribution to healthcare services, mentor junior colleagues and help drive improvements in the quality of patient care.

I chose the University of Sunderland in London because of its strong reputation for delivering high-quality healthcare education and its focus on preparing students for professional practice. The BSc Nursing Top-Up programme offers a curriculum that combines academic knowledge with evidence-based practice, critical thinking and leadership skills, which are essential for modern nursing.

I was also attracted to the University’s supportive learning environment, experienced academic staff and diverse student community. Studying in London provides exposure to a multicultural healthcare setting, allowing me to learn from different perspectives and better understand the needs of diverse patient populations.

Overall, I believe the University of Sunderland in London provides the knowledge, skills and opportunities needed to achieve my career goal of becoming a competent and compassionate registered nurse in the UK.

My long-term goal is to work as a registered nurse within the NHS. I am particularly interested in working in an acute hospital setting, where I can apply my clinical knowledge, develop my skills and work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence-based and compassionate patient care.

The NHS appeals to me because of its strong commitment to patient-centred care, continuous professional development and high standards of clinical practice. I value the opportunity to learn from experienced healthcare professionals while contributing to improved patient outcomes.

As my career progresses, I hope to specialise in a clinical area of interest and eventually take on leadership responsibilities, supporting service improvement, mentoring junior staff and contributing to the delivery of high-quality healthcare.

I enjoy both lectures and self-directed study because they complement each other. Lectures provide valuable guidance from experienced lecturers, opportunities to engage in discussions and a deeper understanding of key nursing concepts. Self-directed study allows me to reinforce my learning, explore current evidence-based research and develop my critical-thinking and independent-learning skills.

I also find simulation sessions extremely valuable. They provide a safe and realistic environment in which to practise clinical skills, improve decision-making, build confidence and apply theoretical knowledge to real-life patient scenarios. The simulations have strengthened my clinical skills and prepared me to respond more effectively in practice.

Overall, this combination of lectures, self-directed study and simulation-based learning has helped me grow both academically and professionally, preparing me to become a safe, competent and compassionate registered nurse.
