BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice (Top-Up)

You will explore the fundamental competencies essential for nursing students in higher education. It will cover key areas such as critical thinking, which is crucial for clinical decision-making; academic writing, which is important for articulating ideas clearly and professionally; reflective practice, which helps students learn from experiences; and evidence-based nursing practice, which integrates research findings into clinical practice.

This module is designed to equip learners with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for conducting academic research. This module offers fundamental research skills and prepares students to undertake their research projects in Term 3 with confidence and competence.

This module provides the students with the opportunity to undertake a research project independently and systematically in the form of a critical evaluation of secondary data on a topic relevant to their area of practice. The students will pursue an area of study of their personal interest in-depth, applying the concepts, techniques, and skills developed through the earlier stages of the programme leading to the submission of a healthcare policy report. Through this module, the students will also demonstrate critical reasoning and the application of theory to practice.

The module will equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills to practice in an adult health practice setting. The module will cover key nursing skills, taking into consideration each of the standards of practice required for nurses to practice in an adult nursing setting. Students will learn about their professional accountability, health promotion and prevention of ill health, needs assessment and care planning. Students will also learn about the provision, evaluation, leading and managing nursing care. Teamwork, improving safety, quality of care and coordinating care of patients will also be addressed in this module.

The module will equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills to practice in a mental health practice setting. The module will cover key mental health nursing skills, taking into consideration each of the standards of practice required for mental health nurses. Students will learn about their professional accountability, health promotion and prevention of ill health, needs assessment and care planning. Students will also learn about the provision, evaluation, leading and managing nursing care. Teamwork, improving safety, quality of care and coordinating care of mental health patients will also be addressed in this module.

The module will equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills to practice in a learning disability health setting. The module will cover key nursing skills, taking into consideration each of the standards of practice required for nurses to practice in a learning disability nursing setting. Students will learn about their professional accountability, health promotion and prevention of ill health, needs assessment and care planning. Students will also learn about the provision, evaluation, leading and managing nursing care. Teamwork, improving safety, quality of care and coordinating care of patients will also be addressed in this module.

The module will equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills to practice in a paediatric health practice setting. The module will cover key paediatric nursing skills, taking into consideration each of the standards of practice required for nurses. Students will learn about their professional accountability, health promotion and prevention of ill health, needs assessment and care planning. Students will also learn about the provision, evaluation, leading and managing paediatric nursing care. Teamwork, improving safety, quality of care and coordinating care of patients will also be addressed in this module.
