Course summary

This course is a three-year programme designed to prepare you for employment, leadership development and further study within the health and social care sector. You will develop knowledge of person-centred practice, communication, wellbeing, safeguarding, ethics, policy and leadership while gaining an understanding of contemporary health and social care systems. As you progress, you will build research, analytical and professional skills through applied learning and real-world scenarios. In your final year, you will undertake an applied research project and choose a specialist pathway aligned to your interests and career goals.

To complete this programme, a student must successfully complete Option modules totalling 30 credits.

How you'll learn

You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, placement learning, case studies and independent study. Teaching is designed to help you develop advanced knowledge and practical skills while applying theory and evidence to contemporary health and social care practice.

Throughout the programme, you will engage in discussions, problem-solving activities, research tasks and collaborative learning that encourage critical thinking, professional reflection and evidence-based decision-making. You will explore current policy, legislation and practice issues, developing a deeper understanding of the factors that influence health and social care services.

A key feature of the programme is its focus on practice-based learning. Through the placement module, you will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge within real-world or digitally simulated health and social care environments. You will also complete an Applied Research Project, enabling you to investigate a topic of professional interest and develop research, analytical and project management skills.
