A Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sunderland in London can see you land roles at world-leading companies, as Sabrina Ferrazza, 2023 graduate and Accounts Assistant at Lloyd’s of London, explains.

Lloyd’s of London is an iconic specialist insurance and reinsurance market sitting at the heart of the City of London and, 350 years ago, it laid the foundations of the modern insurance industry. In 2022, following the completion of her University of Sunderland in London MBA course, Sabrina joined the globally recognised company.

In her role as part of the financial controls team, Sabrina prepares and posts journals and balance sheet reconciliations; playing her part in Lloyd’s of London significant operations which, in last year, managed over £50billion in insurance premiums.

Forging your career path

When starting your career, or joining a new industry, Sabrina explains that you may need to gain experience in other roles and departments first, before landing your desired job.

“Sometimes you need to begin with other roles, to learn about what you want to do and understand the industry. At Lloyd’s, I started in the payments team - where I had the chance to learn all about the company and gain the knowledge I needed for my current role.”

For the ever-ambitious Sabrina, her learning and development journey continues, underpinned by the skills and experience gained from her University of Sunderland in London MBA degree.

“In five years’ time, I would have liked to have completed my ACCA qualification and progressed to become a fully qualified accountant.”

Confidence to aspire professionally

Sharing her experience of studying and student life at the University of Sunderland in London, Sabrina praises the “approachable and supportive” academics and how the university “Wants you to succeed and will help you in any shape or form”.

Sabrina also urges students to take advantage of the many resources on offer, from welfare services to careers and employability support, the latter of which is available to students up to three years after graduation.

“The MBA course gave me the skills I needed to achieve my career goals and the support I received from the university gave me the confidence to aspire professionally.” – Sabrina Ferrazza.
