Case Study

I did my undergraduate degree in International Business Management in my home country of Bulgaria. I was lucky enough to study in English, which really helped when I decided to come to the UK to study for my postgraduate degree.

Between my undergraduate and my masters, I took a year out to work in retail. I didn't expect to find a passion for the industry. I quickly went from a Christmas temp to my current role as a supervisor. I started to find people coming to me for help and advice. Being there for people in my company is what motivated me to study at the University of Sunderland in London.

I want to become a Human Resources Manager and with the MSc International Business Management course, I'm learning how to do that while getting a wider view of business and management.

One of the main reasons I chose the University is because I can work at the same time as I'm studying. I wasn't sure which degree to choose at first, but the Recruitment team really helped me understand what would work best for my schedule. When I was accepted for the course, I found it was exactly what I was looking for.

I've been able to use what I've learnt in my job for my dissertation. Retail is known for having a high turnover so I want to know how companies can keep staff for longer. I'm looking at the stereotype that younger people are more motivated by money than the chance to grow and learn in business.

What I've learnt in class has been really helpful in my work. I use to be quite shy, but when you're doing research you have to speak to lots of people and present your findings. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone in a good way.

I've just submitted my dissertation and I can't believe how quickly the time has gone.
