Marisa Stewart

BA (Hons) Business Management and Entrepreneurship (Top-Up)

Marisa Stewart is coming up to her graduation for the BA (Hons) Business Management and Entrepreneurship (Top-Up) course at the University of Sunderland in London. She tells us about her time studying with us and how her studies have prepared her for the future.

I’m really looking forward to graduation. It’s quite exciting, like a celebration of all the hard work we’ve put in.

"Before coming to the University, I was studying for my Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Management at a further education college.

I wanted to study business because not only was it a way for me to gain new skills, but it was also an opportunity to overcome my fears and really achieve something I could be proud of.

I decided to apply here because I was attracted by the course.

I wanted to bring my degree up to a full honours; it would give me more opportunities and a better chance when I start applying for jobs.

That’s what I liked about the top-up. It meant I didn’t have to study for the three-year degree, I could put my experience from my HND to practical use.

The course really has been an amazing learning opportunity for me. I’ve found out so much about different forms of management. I feel very prepared to take my next steps.

In particular, I’ve found the modules on business analytics and global strategic management useful and interesting.

But it’s a really well-rounded course. You get to learn about venture creation and managing digital systems as well.

The whole thing feels like you’re being prepared to go into the modern workplace.

I’m not sure what I want to do in the future just yet. I like the idea of going into Human Resources. I enjoy working with people, so managing that aspect of a company would be interesting.

The entrepreneurship part of the course has really inspired me to think about starting my own business though. I’ll have to take some time to work out which direction I want to go in.

But whatever I end up doing, the things I’ve learned at the University will help me make a success of it.

I’m really looking forward to graduation. It’s quite exciting, like a celebration of all the hard work we’ve put in over the last year.

For anyone thinking about studying here, I’d really recommend it. The campus is great, and the teachers are all so brilliant and dedicated to helping you reach your goals."
