Chiroshree Chakraborty is an MBA student originally from Kolkata, India. As she goes into her second term at the University of Sunderland in London, she tells us about how the University is giving her more confidence and helping her reach the goal of starting her own company.

“Before I joined the University, I worked full-time as a lecturer teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).

I really enjoyed the work and started to think about starting my own ESL business. I like the idea of being an entrepreneur, but I want to do it right. To run a successful business, you need to learn how. That’s why I applied for the MBA. 

I’d heard about the University from friends. I was told about the excellent level of teaching, and I’m happy to see that’s completely true. The location helps as well. I can commute pretty easily and to be so close to Canary Wharf, how could I miss that? 

The experience has been fantastic, something that really needs to be emphasised given the situation we’re all in right now. Our classes have been done so well during the lockdown. You can really tell that a lot of care has been given to the students. I feel I am listened to and I know I can express my opinions or doubts. 

Outside of lectures, I’ve found there are a lot of things to get involved in with the University. I’m a Student Ambassador and I’ve done competitions like the Santander Enterprise Challenge. I’ve also taken part in crash courses like the Business Entrepreneur Certificate and a Project Management course. Everything you do here contributes to your future.

The expectations I have for my future have grown so much since I joined the University. I’ve gained knowledge and experience, and I’m more confident in myself than I have ever been."
