Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Petra Brnkova is a student on the MBA course. She tells us how getting furloughed led her to finally pursuing her dreams and falling in love with business.
When I was deciding where I wanted to study, the University of Sunderland in London really stood out.
“I spent years working in a job that gave me no room to grow, no chance of progressing.
It was a role I had no passion for but because I didn’t have any professional qualifications it was what I needed to do.
When I got furloughed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided it was time to do something bigger.
I chose to improve on my education, go study and change my future.
That’s when I found the University of Sunderland in London.
I actually came to here to study the BSc (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management course, which I loved.
The knowledge and experience I got from going into this new environment and challenging myself changed my attitude to life and woke up my ambition.
That’s why, when I graduated from my first degree, I decided to stay on and study for my MBA with the University too.
Studying at the University gave me the chance to experience new things every day and realise how important education is for achieving your goals in both your career and life.
My interest in business was sparked during my undergraduate degree.
Since then, it’s been this growing passion inside me that I have to look into. There’s so much to the subject, I want to dig deep and explore its nature.
I see it almost as an art, something that combines great originality, vision and quick thinking.
When I was deciding where I wanted to study, the University of Sunderland in London really stood out.
The location is obviously great – right in the heart of one of the most important financial places in the world - Canary Wharf.
Plus, the MBA gives me the chance to learn about real teamwork, which will help me with my future career.
I really like learning how business administration has changed the way sellers and consumers communicate.
For anyone thinking about studying here, I would say just get involved with as many things as you can.
You’ll have a brilliant time.”
