Studying the course has made me feel more secure in my ability to reach my goals.
MSc Tourism and Hospitality
Dimitra Boka is a student at the University of Sunderland in London on the MSc in Tourism and Hospitality programme. She tells us about how working in the events sector encouraged her to apply for her degree and what it’s been like studying from home under lockdown.
Studying the course has made me feel more secure in my ability to reach my goals.
“I came to study at the University of Sunderland in London after having completed my first degree in Communication and Media Studies in my home city of Athens.
When I arrived in the UK in 2019, I ended up working in the hospitality industry, specifically in events.
I grew to love the work and the world I was getting involved in – I decided I wanted to enrich myself further, which is why I chose to study for my master's degree.
The MSc Tourism and Hospitality course at the University is interesting because you get to study two different fields.
Although they’re linked, learning about the two subjects gives you an understanding of the industry that’s important for future careers.
Studying the course has made me feel more secure in my ability to reach my goals.
If you’re thinking about applying to study here, I would just say, don’t hesitate to fulfil your dreams – whatever the conditions.
We’re in the middle this pandemic right now, which everyone has said has ‘changed our lives’. And to some extent, that’s true.
The course is online, which is not the way anyone expects to do their degree.
But there are positive sides to distance learning. For example, you save time in your daily lives just by not having to commute.
Plus, studying from home can be really comfortable.
Of course, there are face-to-face interactions that we all miss. But you do still speak with your fellow students and your teachers all the time.
Plus, it helps that the online sessions are so interesting!”
