“My dream is to run my own restaurant. For over twenty years I’ve worked in the hospitality industry, doing odd jobs but never really settling anywhere. 

For most of that time I’ve been more focused on raising my kids than a career. Although the experience I’ve gotten has been very practical and valuable, the thing I was missing was the education.  

Now my children are grown, I’ve decided it’s time for me to go after that dream. The University of Sunderland in London has given me the tools to do just that. 

I love my course for the detail and structure I've learnt. There is so much knowledge to be gained about hospitality that I never thought of before.

I chose to do the Top-Up after finishing my Higher National Diploma at a Further Education College. The University has a great Top-Up programme and I was impressed with its reputation. 

But I wanted to make the absolute most out of my time here. That’s why I decided to take the Business Enterprise Certificate alongside my studies.  

It’s a free bonus practical course that has literally helped me write my business plan and given me a more in-depth assessment of my ideas. It’s been well worth the time. 

I would definitely advise anyone thinking about doing the Business Enterprise Certificate to go for it. It’s an intense and fun experience, plus you come away with lifelong skills.
