CORE MODULES:
Keystone learning for healthcare (20 credits)
You will explore the key skills nursing students need for success in higher education. It covers important areas like critical thinking for making clinical decisions, academic writing to express ideas clearly, reflective practice to learn from experiences, and evidence-based nursing to apply research in clinical settings.
This module will help you develop the skills needed to handle the challenges of academic life, boosting your confidence and ability in both academic and professional growth. With this well-rounded approach, you’ll be better prepared to succeed in your studies and future nursing careers.
Skills at the point of registration (20 credits)
This module will help you build confidence in making clinical decisions. It focuses on critically assessing your decisions in practice while considering patient-centred care, safety, patient involvement, and preferences and using the best available evidence.
Research methods (20 credits)
Learn about both quantitative and qualitative research methods and how to create a straightforward research question for your dissertation. You’ll understand the importance of evidence-based practice and how to find research articles. You’ll also explore the difference between a Literature Review and a Systematic Review and their role in nursing.
Research project (40 credits)
Undertake an independent research project by critically evaluating secondary data on a topic related to your clinical practice. You’ll explore a subject of personal interest in-depth, using the concepts, techniques, and skills they've learned in the course. This work will lead to the submission of a healthcare policy report.
OPTIONAL MODULES:
Health assessments – adult nursing (20 credits)
This optional Adult Nursing module will give you the knowledge, skills, and professional standards to provide high-quality care in various healthcare settings. It will enhance your ability to practise as Adult Nurses while following ethical principles in both local and global settings.
The module prepares you for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for Adult Nursing, building your clinical skills through simulation practices. These allow you to experience real-life scenarios and gain confidence in delivering evidence-based, personalised care.
You will learn how to assess patients, plan, implement, and evaluate care, and develop critical thinking skills to make decisions for care plans in different clinical settings.
Health assessments – mental health nursing (20 credits)
Learn the knowledge and skills needed for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in mental health nursing. It covers key skills in mental health nursing, focusing on the standards required for registered mental health nurses in the UK. These include professional accountability, health promotion, preventing ill health, assessing needs, care planning, providing and evaluating care, leading and managing nursing care, teamwork, improving safety and quality of care, and coordinating care.
Health assessments – learning disability nursing (20 credits)
Learn the knowledge and skills needed for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in Learning Disability Nursing. It covers important nursing skills and procedures needed to be a competent learning disability nurse. You’ll learn about professional accountability, promoting health, preventing illness, assessing needs, planning and providing care, evaluating care, leading and managing nursing care, teamwork, improving safety and quality of care, and coordinating care, all based on the standards required for registered learning disability nurses.
Health assessments – paediatric nursing (20 credits)
