Ecaterina's time at UoSiL has been life-changing. She talks about all the new skills she learned and how they helped her get a step closer to her dreams. As well as how she got the idea for the sustainable denim fashion show.
“Studying at the university of Sunderland in London has been one of the best decisions I ever made. Every time I am in the university is unexpectedly wonderful. Being surrounded by positive and energetic people makes me feel very happy to be part of the UoSiL community.” Frunze Ecaterina, BSc (Hons) Event and Entertainment Management
“I chose BA (Hons) Events and Entertainment Management because it is the best programme I have ever heard of. This is the most attractive and interesting sector because it encompasses the most popular aspects including festivals, film, art, fashion, exhibitions, and luxury events. It contains all the information you need to become a professional in this field.
After I complete this course, my goal is to have the necessary knowledge and skills from this course to be able to apply for various jobs in this field after graduation.
What I enjoy the most about studying at the University of Sunderland in London is that I get the right support throughout my entire academic programme. I have gained knowledge and skills that gave me the confidence to apply for different positions in the university, such as course representative, student voice representative and events ambassador. Studying at the University of Sunderland in London has been one of the best decisions I ever made. Every time I am in the university is unexpectedly wonderful. My life before joining the University of Sunderland in London was split between my job as a manager and my role as a wife and mother. During my free time, I actively participated in various seminars, courses, and workshops. I also did a lot of volunteering, which I am very proud of. My life changed a lot after I started university. My way of thinking changed, and I developed skills such as maturity, organisation, and responsibility, which will be useful in the future.
The idea for the fashion show came spontaneously. One day my colleague Tsvetelina called and said that she has an idea and that she wants to apply for the Silver Found. Together we developed the idea and created the aim, the plan, the concept, the target and even every small detail of this application. One of the aims of the event was for the students to exchange experience and benefit from actual practical work within the industry. We want this event to have a positive impact over the students and give them the opportunity to gain experience and skills in the field. We have been very lucky to have the right support and guidance during the planning period, which gave us confidence to move forward.
Fashion for me is a way of communication, that gives people confidence and power. It makes people feel free to express themselves. If you like what you are wearing, it will reflect on the outside, enhancing your personality. The way you choose to dress is a personal preference, but at the same time, it is an opportunity to reveal your identity. Fashion allows people to be limitless in self-expression. I think all fashion brands should start using renewable resources that don’t damage the environment when produced or being disposed of.
Once this educational journey is over, I would like to start my own company for events planning. I want to use all the knowledge and skills I got from university and combine them with the work experience I currently have and achieve my goal.
One advice I always give to myself when things get tough is to stay positive and never give up. People might not always understand and support your dreams, but that doesn’t mean you should stop pursuing them.”
