A UNiversity of Sunderland in London student preparing for an interview

The University of Sunderland in London has partnered with the East London Business Alliance (ELBA) to help you get ready for your future after graduation day. ELBA offer a range of unique online training courses designed to boost your employability and give you the knowledge top employers are looking for. They can help you with everything from getting ready for interviews, boosting your CV to understanding your industry.

Virtual mock interviews

A mock interview is a great way to practice and improve your interview technique. It can be intimidating walking into an interview, especially if it’s the first time. Practising interviews with experts in a safe, low-pressure way can give you the confidence you need so when you’re doing it for real you’ll feel at ease.

All ELBA mock interviews are being done online at the moment, but the process is the same. You’ll be given one hour with an ELBA expert. They’ll take you through a typical interview for the role of your choice, with the questions and style you’re likely to find in real-world interviews. After the mock interview, you’ll be given detailed feedback that you can use to improve your technique and land that dream job.

Virtual CV surgery

Your CV is the first thing a possible future employer will know about you. That’s why it’s so important for your CV to be the best it can possibly be, to help you stand out to potential employers.

ELBA has links with a wide range of business professionals who will look through your CV. You’ll get feedback on the quality of your CV, what you’re doing well and what you can do to improve it. You’ll also get tips on how to make it more presentable, including formatting and style. Remember, your CV has to catch the employers eyes before they read it so it’s important to make it look as good as possible.

Virtual insight sessions

One of the most common tips you hear when you’re preparing for an interview is to get to know the company and the industry. Employers want to hire people who are passionate about their industry and willing to learn more. But where do you start?

Virtual insight sessions are a great way to find out more about the industry you’re interested in working in. You’ll be given two-hours with professionals from the industry to hear more about possible roles and the key facts behind your potential industry. The sessions are highly interactive, so make the most of your time with the experts and ask as many questions as you can.
