UoSiL reached a proud milestone last month when we enrolled our 30,000th student since opening in 2012 - Avinash Saini, who is studying MSc Public Health.
Avinash, originally from Punjab Province in India, has a strong interest in epidemiology and chose to study in the UK to experience a new culture and learn about the country’s world-renowned health system.
Explaining why he chose the UoSiL in particular, Avinash said “Students have many choices when it comes to universities, so I did a lot of research.”
“The University of Sunderland in London stood out for its facilities, the expertise of its academics, the excellent transport links, and the broad career development opportunities available in London.”
Avinash added “My experience at the university has been amazing so far. The academic staff have been excellent.”

‘An incredible period of growth and success’
To celebrate this enrolment milestone, Alan Hardie, Pro Vice-Chancellor International Office and Branch Campuses, met with Avinash and his fellow students on the MSc Public Health programme, joined by lecturer, Saira Hakkim.
On the occasion, Avinash said “I am proud to be the 30,000th student and I look forward to deepening my public health knowledge.”

Outlining a career aim, upon completing his degree, Avinash explained “I want to contribute to improving public health back in my home province in India by working for the NGO, Khalsa Aid, who provide a broad set of basic healthcare necessities to rural areas.”
Reflecting on the university’s achievements, Alan Hardie said “This is an extraordinary milestone: the enrolment of our 30,000th student. Considering that our 20,000th student joined us only in 2023, this marks an incredible period of growth and success.”
