At the University of Sunderland in London, we want to open access to education no matter your background.
That’s why we have a range of highly popular foundation courses, giving you the chance to learn about a subject before taking it further with a full honour’s degree.
So, what is a foundation course? And why should you consider applying for one with us?
What they are
A foundation degree is an ideal place to start if you’re interested in a subject but don’t have a background in it.
They last one year and cover the broad topics you’ll need to know if you’d like to study for the full undergraduate course.
What courses do we have?
We have two broad choices of foundation degree at the University of Sunderland in London.
The first are the stand-alone courses like the FdA Business and Management and FdSc Health and Social Care.
When you graduate from one of these, you’ll have an FdA or FdSc only. Although it’s a recognised and well-thought-off degree, it’s generally designed to be the start of your academic journey.
That’s why we also have the four-year Integrated Foundation subjects.
We recognise that many students are studying for their foundation degree because they want to get a working knowledge before going on to complete a bachelors.
We’ve made that process simple with our courses, including BSc (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management (Integrated) and BA (Hons) Business and Management (Integrated).
The benefit of these is you’ll move automatically from the foundation year onto the main course without having to reapply.
What happens when you finish?
If you’re on the Integrated course, you’ll simply start studying for your next degree straight away.
But if you want a little more flexibility, you could always do a stand-alone foundation then apply to study one of our top-up courses.
These two-year degrees allow you to take the knowledge you’ve gained in the foundation and ‘top-up’ your course in a short amount of time to a full honour's degree.
Examples include the BSc (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management or BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care subjects.
Whatever path you’re thinking of taking, the University of Sunderland in London is here to help.
