We were delighted to host the inaugural International Conference on Innovations in Education and Technology (ICIET), in September 2023.
Held in collaboration with The Academy for Advance Studies (TAAS), ICIET welcomed academics and industry experts from across the globe to explore advances in education and the role of technology in learning, in the post global pandemic era.
Over two days, the conference, which took place at the University’s campus near Canary Wharf and online, welcomed speakers from an impressive 16 universities, from across the UK and Africa. The ICIET event saw presentations on topics including digital learning, student wellbeing, and Chat GPT/AI in education.
The second day of ICIET opened with a panel discussion, on education philosophy and innovative practice, led by Chad Manian (Associate Professor, TAAS) with insight from our lecturer Chris Macallister.
The conference closed with a vote of thanks from Niki Koutrou and Abraham Pius (Provost, TAAS). Niki and Abraham praised the "energy, passion and expertise" shown by conference participants and said that the ideas and innovations from ICIET should be taken forward to bring wider benefit.
Chad Manian said how the ICIET had created an “open forum for leading-edge thinkers, academics and researchers from universities across the world to come together to share ideas”.
Reflecting on the insightful and successful inaugural ICIET, event organiser, Mihaela Dariescu, said –
“The University of Sunderland in London was so pleased to welcome academics and practitioners from over 6 countries, representing 16 institutions. The conference was an inspiring and engaging event, offering excellent opportunities for further collaboration with like-minded scholars from across the world – thank you to everyone who contributed."
