Principal Lecturer (Academic Development)
I have extensive experience in learning, teaching and leadership roles in a range of higher education institutions, including the University of Greenwich, UCL and SOAS University of London.
I hold a BA Hons and MA (Cantab) in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, a master’s degree in Education and International Development from the UCL Institute of Education and a Diploma in the teaching of English (DELTA). I was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) in 2019.
Teaching and supervision
Research
My interests are in the practical application of educational and pedagogical research in improving teaching and learning, the student experience and student outcomes. I am interested in relational pedagogy, decolonising the curriculum and inclusive approaches to teaching, learning and assessment.
Having begun my career as an English language teacher in Southeast Asia before moving into English for Academic purposes I have a particular interest in the experience of international students. I was commissioned to write a module on effective communication for an interactive online course, International Student Success aimed at supporting international students on higher education programmes at UK universities. I also contributed to recent QAA Guidance on Supporting and enhancing the experience of international students in the UK.
I am an external examiner at the University of Leeds and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). I have a longstanding interest in supporting international students and I sit on the recruitment committee of the UK Commission for International Student Affairs (UKCISA).
I am passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion in higher education and spent a year working at Advance HE as part of the Equality Charters team. I continue to be an Advance HE associate, advising Athena Swan Charter assessment panels.
I am also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.
