Beyond a university

We aim to remove every barrier to study that we can. That’s why we want all our students and staff to feel safe and included, regardless of background. No one should feel that the things that make them who they are disadvantage them. We’ve built a wide range of networks and relationship with organisations that share our mindset.

Athena Swan

The Equality Challenge Units’ Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise a commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. In May 2015 the charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL). It also now represents workers in professional and support roles, and transgender staff and students.
