These scholarships and bursaries are for undergraduate applicants looking to joining us in either 2024/25 and/or 2025/26 academic year.

Each section provides you with the latest information on all of our fees, scholarships and bursaries available to you.

We know university is a big investment. Don't worry – the University of Sunderland in London is a great choice and we've got you covered. 

We offer a wide range of generous scholarships and bursaries available to home students to support you while you study.

Some are automatically awarded, which means you don't need to make an application and will receive them automatically if you're eligible. Others require an application that will assess your eligibility.

2024/25 academic year fees

For students in the UK and in the European Union (EU) with settled or pre-settled status you will be paying:

  • £9,250 per academic year

For the 2024/25 academic year, even though you are classified as an International Student, EU nationals receive a £5,750 scholarship, which reduces the fees from £16,000 to £10,250. The discounted fee will be reflected in your offer letter.

For International students and those who are from the EU but have non-settled status you will be paying:

  • £16,000 per academic year

 

2025/26 academic year fees

For students in the UK and in the European Union (EU) with settled or pre-settled status you will be paying:

  • £9,535* per academic year

*Undergraduate fees are set according to rules from Government in line with forecast inflation. The fee for your first year of study for 2025/26 will be £9,535. You will pay tuition fees for every year of study. Fees may increase every year based on the Retail Price Index.

For International students and those who are from the EU but have non-settled status you will be paying:

  • £16,500 per academic year

Tuition Fee Loans

Tuition fee loans, provided by Student Finance England, are available to help cover the cost of your tuition fees. To apply, visit the Student Finance England website to check eligibility and deadlines.

 

Repayment

You only begin repaying your tuition fee loan after you complete your course, and when your income exceeds £27,295 per year (or £524 per week, before tax).

 

Undergraduate Loan

Eligible students can receive:

  • Up to £9,250 for tuition fees each academic year.
  • Up to £12,667 to assist with living expenses, based on your family’s financial situation.

 

Maintenance Loans

Maintenance Loans, also provided by Student Finance England, help cover living costs during your studies. The amount you can borrow depends on:

  • Your living arrangements (e.g., living at home, away from home in London, or elsewhere).
  • Your family’s household income (assessed through an income check).

What is it?

These bursaries support students from underrepresented groups in higher education, including:

  • Gypsies, Travellers, Roma, Showmen, and Boaters
  • Asylum seekers and refugees
  • Carers
  • Students from lower-income households
  • Mature students
  • Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) students

 

Who can apply?

  • You must be a ‘home’ or ‘overseas island’ student applying for an eligible undergraduate course.
  • You must be a first-year or year 3 top-up student starting your studies in autumn 2025.
  • You must belong to at least one of the underrepresented groups mentioned above.

 

How much will I get?

The bursary amounts range from £500 to £3,000, depending on which underrepresented group you belong to. The award is provided as credit for essential study materials and resources. Some bursaries may also include a cash component to help with living costs.

 

How do I apply?

You can apply through your myApplication account.

  • Your username is your student number, which you can find in any correspondence from the University.
  • If you're unsure of your student number, contact Student Administration at studentadmin@sunderland.ac.uk.

 

When can I apply?

Applications open in March 2025, and the deadline for submissions is Thursday, 31 July 2025.

  • Once the deadline passes, we cannot accept further applications.

 

How will I be paid?

  • Cash payments will be transferred to your bank account.
  • Ensure your bank details are entered in your myApplication account to receive these payments.

 

When will I receive my award?

Bursary payments are made each term over three academic years. Top-up students will receive a one-time award for the year. Payments will be made on the 5th working day of November, February, and April each academic year.

What it is

A £2,500 cash bursary available each year of study (excluding placement and study abroad years) for care-experienced or estranged students.

 

Who it's for

This bursary is for UK home students enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or full-time taught postgraduate course.

  • Estranged students: Must be under 25 years old as of 1st September 2024.

  • Care-experienced students: Open to students of all ages.

The Partner College Scholarship is designed to support home undergraduate students admitted to the University of Sunderland in London through a partner college. It offers a £1,000 fee waiver per academic year, which is automatically deducted from the tuition fees of eligible students. The scholarship is renewable for the duration of the undergraduate program, subject to maintaining satisfactory academic progress.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a home undergraduate student from England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland.
  • Admitted to a full-time undergraduate program through a partner college.
  • Must meet all admission requirements for the chosen program.
  • Students applying through recruitment agents are not eligible.

 

Key Conditions:

  • Automatically awarded upon admission; no separate application is required.
  • Cannot be combined with other scholarships or financial awards unless specified.
  • Non-transferable and non-deferrable.
  • May be revoked if the recipient withdraws or fails to meet academic requirements.

This scholarship reflects the University’s commitment to supporting students transitioning from partner colleges, providing financial relief throughout their studies.
