Students studying at the University will find themselves in the heart of city's famous business district in East London, Canary Wharf.

A history of business

Canary Wharf has been at the heart of London’s connection to the world for over 200 years, with historic associations to trade, commerce and finance. At one time it was the world’s busiest port, bringing trade and wealth to Britain. Today, some of the world’s most influential companies are based here including HSBC, JP Morgan, Citigroup, Barclays, and Bank of New York which occupies one of London's tallest building, One Canada Square.

Vibrant culture

Canary Wharf has a thriving cultural scene. The estate now has one of the UK’s largest collections of public art featuring works by sculpture Oliver Barratt, mosaic artist Anna Biggs and glass artist Alexander Beleschenko. It has been the site of the Museum of London Docklands since 2003, with displays spanning the London's Roman beginnings to the rise of Canary Wharf. There is always something to do, from open-air concerts, food markets and vintage fairs in the summer, to an ice skating rink in the winter months. You'll be spoiled for choice!

Shopping and food

There are plenty of affordable and high-end places to shop and eat around Canary Wharf. It has three shopping malls: Canada Place, Cabot Place and Jubilee Place all with high-end shops including Bang & Olufsen and Zara, restaurants like Carluccio's and Wahaca, and a range of cafes and bars. It also is home to one of UK's largest Waitrose, with its own temperature-controlled wine cellar which holds regular tastings.

Always something on

Thanks to the DLR, Jubilee and Elizabeth line, and pedestrianised areas, Canary Wharf has become a rare peaceful spot in the eastern side of London. The peace and quiet make it an ideal location to relax in many green spaces, like Jubilee Park built directly over Canary Wharf Jubilee station, Fairgame or Crossrail Place Roof Garden complete with its own food market.

Over the summer you can sit back and watch Wimbledon or the World Cup from the comfort of a deck chair at the annual Summer Screens or catch a glimpse of the London Marathon which passes through the Isle of Dogs every year.
