I have a disability – how can you support me?

Home / FAQs / Support / On-campus support / Health and wellbeing / Disability support

The University's Health and Wellbeing team offer a support service for students with disabilities (physical health, long-term health condition, mental health and mobility) and students who have specific learning differences, such as dyslexia or dyspraxia.

They support students by removing barriers to learning by making reasonable adjustments in line with the Equality Act 2010. The team works with the Disability team at the University of Sunderland.

The Health and Wellbeing team also offer information, advice and guidance to students who think they might have specific learning differences but have not had a formal diagnosis.

They help students get access to the Disability Student Allowance (DSA) - a non-repayable grant from Student Finance England. Students can use this grant to pay for external support such as a laptop and Assistive Technology, 1:1 specialist support, mentoring, and an ergonomic chair.

Students with age-related health issues such as diabetes, asthma, arthritis can also receive support through the DSA.

The service is confidential and you can get in touch with the team through email, phone at 0207 531 7343 or face to face by visiting their office on the fourth floor of the University of Sunderland in London building.
