“Before coming to the University, I worked as a Human Resources and Recruitment officer in the healthcare sector. When I was looking for universities, I originally thought I’d study something related to that.

But I decided it would be better to explore my options - although I like that the Business and Management course does cover Human Resources as well. At first, I was a little nervous. I didn’t think business studies was necessarily my calling. 

Looking back as a second years student though, I’m amazed at just how much the course covers. I’ve learnt more than I ever thought I could. I’m growing the skills I already have from my work experience plus getting an in-depth knowledge of how businesses run successfully.

I get on really well with the people on my course. I think it helps that we all have such diverse backgrounds and a lot of us are mature students. I was worried I’d be the only one, but I actually have that in common with a lot of people.

It’s also been easier adjusting to university study than I thought it would be. The lecturers have all been a big help with that. My expectations for my future have changed. I feel like I’m building towards the kind of career I can be excited about.

When I think about the sort of life I could have, I imagine working in a big firm or building my own business. I want to become a confident and professional entrepreneur. Nobody can really predict what the future will hold. I just want to carry on and follow my ambitions. 

My experiences at the University have given me confidence in myself and made me feel like nothing is impossible.”
