“When I was 15, I came to the UK from Libya to do an English Language course.  I stayed for my GCSEs, then a foundation degree in business before applying for the University. It’s going great so far; I’m really enjoying studying here. The course was actually recommended by a friend of my parents. 

They’d heard great things about it, and I was happy to find out it's all true. One of the best parts, for me personally, was the multiple start dates. I wanted to begin my course in January, which you can’t do with a lot of other universities. 

I’ve always liked the idea of working in a big company. I even started on the BA (Hons) Business and Management course. But I also love numbers and I wanted to find a way of combining my two passions. Eventually, I decided to transfer to accounting and finance. 

It was actually really easy. The course leaders for both subjects helped a lot and made the transition very smooth. I have a dream to open my own accountancy firm, so I’ll need the knowledge I’m learning here to do that. 

Obviously, the coronavirus situation has made studying a little difficult, but the University has been so helpful. From the beginning, they contacted me and offered wellbeing and academic guidance which was a huge relief. Despite that, I definitely prefer being in my regular classes. 

It’s been very nice with the campus starting to open up again. I get to come in and work on my assignments in the computer rooms here. 

One of the things I really like about studying at the University is all the free courses you can take to boost your knowledge. I went on the Digital Media Marketing course run by the Careers and Employability service. I learnt all about how you can use social networks to advertise your business, which is really important if I want to make my accountancy business a success. 

This is a great place to come if you’re into finance and business. Not only is the course interesting, but you get to study surrounded by Canary Wharf and some of the biggest financial companies in the world. It’s really inspirational.”
