Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Vaibhav Shekhar is passionate about business, but he also wants to push his boundaries and see how far he can go. Through his Master of Business Administration (MBA) course with us, he’s getting the skills he needs to succeed.

No matter what experience you have, there’s always more to learn.

“Before I came to study at the University of Sunderland in London, I was working for a financial advisor as a business monitoring consultant. Basically, my job involved training financial and mortgage advisors. I was responsible for checking the advice our clients were given to make sure it was in their best interests. An MBA is a highly recognised and respected qualification. I chose to apply for the course because, simply put, I want to learn something new and challenge myself to achieve greater things in my career.

The MBA is aimed at working professionals, people who’ve worked in businesses like myself. But it’s about accepting that no matter what experience you have, there’s always more to learn. The programme looks at the whole field of business practices, exploring management, marketing, finance, HR, operations and more. It’s great because I’m learning what best practice means for each of these areas. For me, one of the biggest draws of the University generally was the timetable. It’s designed to fit around you, so you’re only taking classes two days a week. It's great because my current role is so challenging and keeps me really busy, so I appreciate having the time to work and study, which is so important.

The experience I’m gaining with this MBA will be life-changing for me. For one thing, it’s giving me a wider view of my profession – helping me to understand business in a new context. I’m particularly excited to take advantage of the academic skills training - something the University provides for all students on top of our classes. It’s something I’m not as confident about – writing, researching and reading within a university setting. I’m sure I’ll be able to learn these skills with the help of the University and even apply them to my workplace.

Once I graduate, I really want to find a more challenging role for myself. That’s something I’ve found I enjoy, pushing beyond the things I’m comfortable with and learning new skills. The University has a great reputation for its MBAs, plus you get to study in the heart of one of the world’s greatest cities, with an unending offer of history, culture, arts, entertainment, sports and leisure. What’s not to love!”
