Mental health includes how we feel, think, behave, and navigate the world around us. Therefore, taking care of one’s mental health is key to their academic success and overall quality of life. It is common for students to face increased levels of stress, anxiety, loneliness, and other emotional challenges while studying.

Our Mental Health Advice service

Our Mental Health Advice service is aimed at supporting students facing psychological and emotional challenges. We offer: 

  • Individual Support: Confidential one-to-one meetings with a qualified mental health professional to assess student’s mental health concerns, evaluate risk, identify effective strategies for coping, and coordinate plan for continued support.  
  • Group Support: Specialised groups facilitated by Mental Health Adviser to support students with similar experiences, struggles, interests, and/or identities.  
  • Case Management: Continuous monitoring of students, with focus on students assessed to be at risk, adjusting mental health support plans as needed, and liaising with internal and external support providers. 
  • Education and Outreach: Awareness campaigns, content creation, trainings, and educational materials related to mental health. 
  • Psychoeducation and Programming: Workshops and programmes on topics such as anxiety, stress management, and depression. 
  • Referrals: Referrals to relevant services including specialised treatment, ongoing counselling or psychotherapy, inpatient treatment and more.

Referrals to Internal and External Resources

The Health and Wellbeing Team may not always be able to meet the unique needs of each student. In these circumstances, the Wellbeing Adviser will work with the student to identify relevant resources and providers within and external to the University. The Wellbeing Adviser is available to assist students in connecting with medical, mental health, and other wellbeing related resources.
