A number of University of Sunderland in London events students have won Association of Events Management Education (AEME) Student Awards for 2022.

UoSiL students were successful across four categories, with the honours going to Molly Atkinson (Best Focused in Festivals), Aikaterini Mitsi (Best Focused in Arts and Culture Events), Ecaterina Frunze (Best Focused in Fashion Events) and Deni Todorova (Best Focused in Music Events).

Best Focused in Fashion Events winner Ecaterina Frunze said winning the award was a surprise but she welcomed the recognition: “It was so unexpected but at the same time it was very nice to see that somebody appreciates your hard work.”

She added: “I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to express myself and show my personality. Receiving this award inspires and motivates me to do even better in the future.”

There were also nominations for a further nine UoSiL students: Roberta Veronesi, Petya Nikolova, Zhasmina Zhivkova, Emanoela Peeva, Roza Naydenova, Tsvetelina Denkova, Claudia Lumaicu, Kalina Radeva and Raisa Ursachi.

The coordinator of the awards is none other than our very own lecturer, Fotios Vasileiou, who set up the AEME Student Awards back in 2021 as a way of encouraging and inspiring Events Management students.

“This year we [the AEME] had 100 amazing students receiving nominations and 15 going on to win awards,” he said. “The UK events industry has a bright future and I am proud to be a part of it.”
