The University of Sunderland including the University of Sunderland in London  has broken into the top 50 universities in The Guardian University Guide 2023

Sunderland has placed at number 50, its highest ranking in a decade, rising 42 places from its position on the previous year's list. This follows a successful few years for the university which has seen it nominated as the University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Awards in 2021, as well as being named University of the Year for social inclusion in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.

Speaking on the announcement, University Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Sir David Bell, said: “University ‘league tables’ are only one measure of the work done at the University of Sunderland.

“However, such a dramatic rise in the Guardian University Guide is a notable moment for us. So, as always, I pay tribute to students and staff for all their hard work which we see, and celebrate, day in and day out.”
