Following the news that the university recently received notable national recognition by breaking into the top 50 of The Guardian’s University Guide for 2023, the University of Sunderland and the University of Sunderland in London can now boast international honours on top of that.

For the first time ever, the university has made it into the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, placing between 1,001 and 1,200 out of 1,799 institutions for 2023.

Sunderland scored particularly highly in the International Outlook category, ranking in the top 75% of global universities at number 347.

Commenting on the good news, Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell said: “I'm a firm believer that rankings are just one way of measuring the huge amount of hard work done every year at the University of Sunderland.”

He added: “The inclusion of Sunderland in the THE World Rankings 2023 is, however, pleasing and a nice way of acknowledging the dedication of our staff and the talents of the students, something I witness day in and day out."
