What is Pride Month?

Pride Month is a time when the LGBTQ+ community comes together to celebrate and embrace their identities. It's a month-long celebration that takes place every June. This is a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history, sparking a movement for rights and equality.

Today, Pride Month serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the progress made towards acceptance and visibility while also recognising there is still work to be done. The celebrations include parades, marches, rallies, parties, concerts and other events aimed at promoting awareness about issues facing the LGBTQ+ community.

The importance of Pride Month extends beyond just celebrating our differences - it's also about spreading love and acceptance worldwide. Pride allows us to come together as one united community under one common goal: creating a world where everyone can live without fear or discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

So whether you're part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally looking to show your support this year - Happy Pride Month!

The History of Pride

The history of Pride is a long and complex one, with roots that stretch back to the early days of LGBTQ+ activism. The first Pride event was held in New York City in 1970. This riot against police brutality towards queer people sparked a movement for LGBTQ+ rights across America.

Over time, Pride has become an important symbol of visibility and acceptance for LGBTQ+ everywhere. It's a chance to celebrate diversity and progress while also remembering all those who fought for the rights that we have today.

As we continue to move forward in our fight for equality, it's important that we honour our past by learning about and celebrating the history of Pride.

How to get involved in Pride Month

Are you looking to get involved in Pride Month? There are plenty of ways to show your support for the LGBTQ+ community during this time.

One way is to attend events and celebrations happening throughout the month. Check out local parades, festivals, and parties that celebrate Pride. You can also volunteer at these events or donate to organizations that support the LGBTQ+ community.

Another option is to educate yourself on LGBTQ+ issues and history using various resources. You can also read books or listen to podcasts to gain more knowledge about Pride Month and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community. This can help you gain a deeper understanding of the struggles faced by members of this community as well as how you can be an ally.

You can also show your support by wearing rainbow-coloured clothing or accessories, displaying a Pride flag outside your home or workplace, and sharing positive messages on social media using hashtags like #PrideMonth or #LoveIsLove.
