Earlier this year, the University of Sunderland in London celebrated teaching and student support excellence with the results of the university-wide Student Nominated Teaching Awards 2024. In recognition of his superb efforts, Post-Graduate Business Lecturer, Dr Ural Arslangulov, received the overall university award for Outstanding Student Support.
The University of Sunderland in London continues to make exceptional progress in teaching delivery and student support, most recently highlighted in this year’s National Student Survey.
The Student Nominated Teaching Awards provide further demonstration of this achievement, with nominations for academic and professional services colleagues, doubling over the last two years.

As a university-wide winner, Ural proudly attended the Student Nominated Teaching Awards (SNTAs) ceremony at the Sunderland campus in October, where he joined the other award winners.
Upon receiving his award, Ural said “I want to express my deepest gratitude to the students for nominating me for the SNTAs. The fundamental reason I am working in academia is my desire to make a positive impact on students’ lives.
Being honoured reassures me that my efforts are making tangible difference in students' academic journeys, which motivates to continue striving for excellence in teaching and student support.”

Ural’s research work has focused on sustainability, contributing to work on the decarbonisation of the UK automative industry and the country’s transition to zero-emission vehicles. Through the connections he has built, Ural has organised informative industry visits for the university’s students, including regular field trips to the iconic Lotus Car factory in East Anglia – further enhancing learning opportunities.
