Being a student can be tough and being a student in London can be even tougher. London has always been one of the most expensive cities in Europe, never mind the UK, and when you’re on a student budget, sometimes it feels impossible to go out. After all, the cost of living is going up and every penny counts. Especially when you’ve got assignments to worry about, we appreciate you can’t always cook and the last thing you want to be doing is stressing about the price of eating out (healthy or not).
With that in mind, we’ve got your back. Here are five affordable restaurants in central London that will have you going back time and time again during your studies at the University of Sunderland in London.
Flat Iron
If you are a steak lover on a budget, Flat Iron is the place for you. They have 11 locations across London, with their latest opening in Waterloo. With steaks starting at £12 and sides between £1-£4, it is a great option for any student. Not only is it affordable, but there are also two great freebies: complementary popcorn for starters and their signature salted caramel ice cream for dessert. Also, do not forget to try their cauliflower and truffle mac and cheese. Trust us!
Patty & Bun
Patty & Bun are in the business of mouthwatering burgers at affordable prices, so your wallet will be thanking you, as will your stomach. They have a student offer that will see you get any burger and fries for £10.95, while their delicious homemade pink lemonade is just £4. They also have a range of tasty and affordable options for vegetarians should meat not be your go-to.
Dozo Sushi
For many, sushi is an acquired taste, however, after being introduced to Dozo Sushi, we think you will be hooked. Always freshly prepared and delicious, combining sweet and sour flavours with spicy notes, it is a real treat for your palate. We would recommend going to Dozo in a group to ensure more sushi for less (a typical group trip will set you back around £25 per person). They have two locations, one in Soho and one in Kensington, and there is always a queue at both locations, so do not forget to book in advance.
Rudy's Pizza
If you are looking for tasty authentic pizza Napoletana, then it’s got to be Rudy’s. You can find Rudy’s in most major cities in England, such as Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and, of course, London. In this modern Naples-style pizzeria you can enjoy thin-crust pizza for only £6.90, delicious sides for £3.90 and Italian wine for £4.90. Rudy’s is also ideal for group bookings and celebrations – graduation party, anyone?
El Camion
Why choose between eating and partying when at El Camion you can do both. Their signature quesadillas start from £8, with Mexican beer at £6. This restaurant/bar is one of few in the area that stays open until 3am, so perfect for dinner and a night out. You eat and drink on the ground floor and then move underground to the basement to keep the party going. A great option for your Friday or Saturday night.
