Jennifer Odibo

MSc Public Health

Jennifer Odibo is studying for her postgraduate degree in Public Health with us here at the University of Sunderland in London. She tells us why she decided to continue with us after graduating from her undergraduate course.

Being here has helped me work hard and know I’m on the path to reaching my goals.

“I’m a long-time student at the University of Sunderland in London, having completed my BSc in Health and Social Care (Top-Up) in April 2021.

The experience I had, learning from the academics, making friends in class and accessing a wide range of knowledge was enough to convince me that I needed to come back here for my postgraduate degree.

I saw the MSc as the next step up in my education. It’s an opportunity to broaden my knowledge regarding issues around global health, as well as leadership and management in the sector.

Although you learn a huge amount on the Top-Up course, I wanted to give myself the best possible understanding of an industry that I care about so much. That’s what the postgraduate represented for me.

The University was recommended to me by a friend who had studied here before me and had a wonderful time.

So far, the modules have all helped me build my confidence as a learner. Over the course of the last couple of terms, I’ve gained new knowledge and skills I know will help me so much as I start applying for jobs.

Bearing that in mind, when I graduate, I actually want to set up my own business supporting people with learning disabilities.

That work will, I think, be the best use of everything I’ve learned at the University.

I’ll get to help people, work for myself and establish my experience in an industry that I care about so much.

The University of Sunderland in London has so many great resources for students. The lecturers and support staff are all friendly and approachable, too.

Being here has helped me work hard and know I’m on the path to reaching my goals.”
