Abdul Rokib

BA (Hons) Business Management and Entrepreneurship (Top-Up)

In between study and family life, Abdul Rokib has big plans for his business. He runs a takeaway company with his father, selling carefully curated Indian food to his local area, with plans to expand in near the future.

It’s all about going forward, growing your business and taking advantage of the technologies people are using now.

There’s 50 years’ experience between Abdul and his father. “I’ve been doing this for the last 20 years,” he says. Those decades of experience have taught Abdul the importance of developing and adapting your business to changes in the market place.

That drive to stay on the top of his game is behind Abdul’s decision to study for his BA (Hons) Business Management and Entrepreneurship (Top-Up) degree at the University of Sunderland in London. He’s hoping to use what he’s learning on modules like Marketing in a Digital World to keep his business fresh and competitive.

“When I started you could just order takeaways by picking up the phone and making a call. Now you pick it up and tap an app instead. It’s important because it’s not just about the taste of the food anymore, although the mix of spices is really important. The food needs to look great as well if you want people to share it online. I’ve learnt word of mouth is essential for marketing.”
