Roxana Voican is a student studying for her BA (Hons) Business Management and Entrepreneurship (Top-Up) at the University of Sunderland in London. She tells us about how a recommendation from a former teacher led to her pursuing her dream of running her own business by studying with us.

Thinking of my modules, I have to say I honestly couldn’t choose my favourite. I love them all!

“Before applying for this course, I was working towards my Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business and Management.

That led to a job working for a bank, which I got to do from home.

But my actual dream was to work for myself. I started my own business after completing the HND, which is why I wanted to study this course.

I make and sell art prints, plus boxes and hamper gifts for special occasions.

The information I’m learning is all really useful to me and my business.

It was a recommendation from the principal my former college that convinced me to apply for the University of Sunderland in London.

They’d had a great experience here, and their passion for the place filled me with a lot of confidence about it.

It’s a little sad that we have to do it all online because of COVID-19.

Remote learning can be a challenge and, in some ways, more complex than face-to-face study, but I feel like I’m getting on alright at least.

I’m definitely expanding my knowledge and skills, which I want to translate into growing my business and taking it to other countries.

What I like about the University is that your age or your background really don't matter. If you believe you can do it, then you can. It’s never too late to learn.”
