Case Study

Abiola Abdulrahman

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Abiola Abdulrahman is a student at the University of Sunderland in London, studying for her MBA. She tells us about the things that have drawn her to study with us, from classroom sizes to course structure.

With the knowledge I’ve gained during my time at the University of Sunderland in London, I know that the sky is only my starting point.

“My decision to apply for my MBA came as a result of wanting to get a deeper insight into the demands of global business.

I think of it as paving the way for me to meet my potential future employers, interacting with business managers and executives to grow my network.

Of course, the connections I’m making with my classmates builds on that too.

I chose to apply for the University of Sunderland in London because I was delighted with the friendly, supportive environment.

It feels like it’s a one-stop-shop for all my student needs.

For one thing, the class sizes are really something unique. When you’re in a big group you don’t get seen as well, you don’t get heard from.

But with smaller class sizes like at the university, the lecturers can give you their focus.

Plus, I love the location of the campus, right around the corner from Canary Wharf. It has this intriguing and captivating aesthetic that is equally calming and inspirational.

Of course, I really enjoy my studies. In particular, the Professional Management and Leadership module is very interesting.

It’s actually one of the main reasons I applied for the MBA in the beginning.

So far, I’ve learned quite a lot about different leadership and management theories and styles. We’ve used roleplay exercises to help us get in the mindset of business leaders and get ready for management roles.

I currently work for the office of the Accountant General of Nigeria – helping to look after the financial interests of the country.

My degree will help me reach managerial and leadership roles at my workplace, pave the way for me to enter the global business world and maybe even run a successful company in the future.

With the knowledge I’ve gained during my time at the University of Sunderland in London, I know that the sky is only my starting point.”
