Michelle Andrades

MBA Master of Business Administration (Finance )

When MBA Finance graduate Michelle Andrades came to the University of Sunderland in London, it was to learn what she needed to become an entrepreneur. Now that she’s finished her studies and begun work on her dream, she reflects on her time studying with us.

University gave me the confidence and motivation I needed to finally start work on my business.

“I’m working on launching my own e-commerce business. The goal I’m aiming at is to become my own boss and see how far this thing can take me.

I’m at the beginning of that journey at the moment, working in administration in the NHS while I try and become an entrepreneur.

But that drive to achieve, as well as the skills and knowledge I need, is what I’ve taken away most from my time at the University of Sunderland in London.

It gave me the confidence and motivation I needed to finally start work on my business. It also helped me become more analytical and taught me how to research.

All of those things are vital when it comes to working for yourself. You have to be a self-starter, really ready to go out there and get what you want.

I’m grateful to the University for that because it means I’m ready to grow my business. It’s my priority now.

Before I came to the UK, I was working as a data specialist in Spain. In many ways, you need the same skills for that role as you do to be an entrepreneur.

There is a focus and an analytical mind which goes into both disciplines. One really compliments the other.

But the inspiration to work for myself was my mum. She’s been a businesswoman for as long as I can remember and a constant source of guidance for me.

She’s taught me from a young age, so I’d be proud to be like her.

When I finished my Economics and Financial Management degree, she pushed me to finish off my academic journey with the MBA in Finance.

I’m so glad she did because it led me to go on to study in one of Europe's biggest markets – London.

The University was an easy choice. Once you read the reviews and check out the location, it’s obviously a brilliant place to come and learn.

Of course, for me, there was the extra challenge of trying to study for the degree in another language.

But the teachers here are so experienced with that, they were able to give me all the help I needed to make sure I could achieve.

The journey through the University of Sunderland in London is one well worth making.

It’s a challenge, but everyone is there to help and encourage you so as long as you believe in your goal, you’ll have the support you need to succeed.”
