Sharaf Rahman

MBA (Marketing)

Sharaf Rahman completed his MBA in Marketing in 2015. In the time since he has become an entrepreneur in the rapidly growing green economy. He tells us about how a fascination with communications and a desire to do good led him to found his start-up.

It was the skills and knowledge I gained during my MBA in Marketing from the University of Sunderland in London that got me to where I wanted to be.

“I wanted a career that helped the world we live in, something which is more important now than it has ever been.

That’s the reason I founded ReCyrcle, a deep-tech startup in the circular (or green) economy sector.

But it was the skills and knowledge I gained during my MBA in Marketing from the University of Sunderland in London that got me to where I wanted to be.

It taught me how to assess and mitigate risks, which is something every entrepreneur needs to know to be successful.

I chose the University because I’d heard good things about the course and the community, but it definitely exceeded my expectations.

The whole of the MBA is interesting and useful, but it was the Marketing Management module that I liked the most.

It taught me about the processes behind planning a concept and actually carrying it out.

When you start your own company you have to be very thorough and driven, so knowing where to begin was invaluable to me.

I’m really proud of the work we do at ReCyrcle, trying to solve the problem of waste packaging through advanced waste management and resource recovery.

Most of all, I’m excited about creating jobs in the industry. If COP26 taught us anything, it’s that the green economy is going to be huge.

That’s why I want my future to be as a leader in this sector, driving significant positive social and environmental change.

One of the most powerful tools we have to achieve this is marketing, which is why it’s always fascinated me and the reason I chose to focus my MBA on it.

It combines business, creativity and innovation making it really exciting and interesting to study.

The University of Sunderland in London is an excellent place to learn and develop your professional skills.”
