Soukaina Himmi

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Soukaina Himmi is an MBA student at the University of Sunderland in London. In this case study, she explains why she chose the course and how her next steps are appearing in front of her the closer she gets to graduation.

Each class and every module builds on the last giving you a truly complete business education.

“Before I decided to come to study my MBA at the University of Sunderland in London, I was working on a food engineering degree in France.

I wanted to go into the world of quality controls and laboratory methodologies that are integral to the success of such a huge global industry.

But as interesting as my work was, I knew I needed to take things up a stage if I was ever going to succeed in business.

An MBA seemed like the logical next step. I could boost my research skills and expand my professional network at the same time.

It meant I would gain the experience to go from just an average worker in the sector to a leader with some serious business acumen.

It was the difference between staying where I was and opening my horizons beyond anything I could see.

What attracted me to the course at the University of Sunderland in London was the emphasis on transferable skills.

Being hyper-focused on one thing might be right for some people, but I knew going in I wanted to keep my options open.

The kind of education you get at the University means you are not tying yourself down to one specific path in life.

Rather, you’re given the freedom to pursue your goals and adapt your aims to better fit your interests.

From the beginning of the programme, I knew I’d make the right choice.

Sitting in those first few management and finance classes it was so easy to see how much potential the things I was learning would give me.

It felt like there were just so many applications for that knowledge. It was very inspiring.

Those beginning classes laid the foundations for my eventual focuses - strategic management and leadership.

That’s something great about this course. Each class and every module builds on the last giving you a truly complete business education.

I was exposed to theories and key models of management that leaders around the world use every day.

In the long run, I’d like to start my own business. But for now, I’m hoping to get some professional experience in a multinational corporation when I graduate.

I certainly feel as though I’m learning enough to take that step and many more beyond.”
